Laguna Lake

Laguna Lake

The Laguna Lake neighborhood, at the south end of San Luis Obispo, looks more like the Southern California 1960’s and 1970’s style tract homes that you might find in Upland, Fullerton or Huntington Beach. This is area is the most Southern California type neighborhood in San Luis Obispo. While the homes are more tract style and not custom built, as in the more upper crust Bishop Peak location, the homes are a bit nicer than the usual tract homes, especially the homes on the lake. The neighborhood has the Laguna Lake Shopping Center down the street and the Madonna Plaza Shopping Center right across from Laguna Lake Park. Laguna Middle School, for seventh and eighth graders, is on Los Osos Valley Road.

Laguna Lake itself is a 25 acre body of water surrounded by 450 acres of mostly undeveloped open space with hiking trails. The area around the lake has picnic tables for enjoying an al fresco lunch, bird watching, fishing, feeding the ducks waddling out of the water to beg for scraps of bread, bicyclists, joggers, and those less ambitious, just out for their daily stroll. With Frisbee golf and a fenced dog park, horse trails and rolling green hills, Laguna Lake Park is a hidden gem, just off the busy thoroughfare of Madonna Road.
