Downtown

San Luis Obispo’s downtown is a mixture of commercial and office use. Most people don’t notice that there are some apartments located above some of the shops in the downtown area. There is potential for mixed use housing in this area but this is only a small percentage of possible development. The Wineman Residences is the newest offering in San Luis Obispo‘s downtown. The building comprising forty seven remodeled studio apartments with hardwood floors, built in microwaves, rooftop terrace, elevators, and secured entry, is located at 849 Higuera in the heart of San Luis Obispo. Many eateries and bars are also located in the downtown area, as are galleries, antique stores, and Downtown Brew, a club that attracts up and coming California bands and even rock and roll old timers like Leon Russell.

Historical downtown walking tours begin at the Mission Plaza and the historic San Luis Obispo Mission. The historic walk around town is called the “Path of History,” and proceeds to the San Luis Obispo Historical Museum, to the Jack House, Dallidet Adobe, the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Kundert Medical Building, the art deco Fremont Theater, the Ah Louis Store, to the Victorian Garden Inn, ending at the Presbyterian Church.
