San Luis Obispo Weather

In the summer months, while the cities in the northern part of San Luis Obispo County are sweltering, San Luis Obispo is sitting coolly content with its near perfect Mediterranean climate. Average day time temps in the summer hover around 80 degrees. The evenings cool down quickly by fifteen to twenty degrees. Far enough inland to usually escape coastal fog, but not so far to be affected by extreme summer heat, San Luis Obispo enjoys a moderate and comfortable climate. There are only about 50 days a year with any kind of measurable rain. In general, San Luis Obispo is cooler than cities above the Cuesta Grade, like Atascadero, Templeton and Paso Robles. But there are those days when a sudden heat wave settles over the city bringing temperatures into the 90’s F. or more.

Sunset Magazine, in recently naming San Luis Obispo as one of the “Top Dream Towns in the West,” said, “And the climate? Well, let’s see. How do you describe a place that’s as ideal for people as it is for wine grapes? Where the average monthly highs range all the way from 62 degrees to 74 degrees? Oh, that’s right: Perfect.”
