See Canyon

See Canyon

Tucked into a canyon between Avila Beach and San Luis Obispo, there is a pocket where apple orchards flourish. See Canyon, southwest of San Luis Obispo, is known for the abundance of apple varieties that are harvested during the peak season of August into October and even into November.

The canyon is accessible by a winding one-lane road that alternates between paved, dirt and gravel. Ranches, like the See Canyon Fruit Ranch have been in the business of growing apples for over 115 years. Fuji, Braeburn, Splendor, and Granny Smith apples, along with sweet cider are for sale at the various barns and ranches along the road, generally open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the season. There are a few vineyards in the canyon, too. Watch for bicyclists and pedestrians. This is a favorite road for them, too.

Take the San Luis Bay Drive/See Canyon exit from the 101 south of San Luis Obispo. Turn right and go 1 ½ miles to See Canyon Road. Turn right.
