Lopez Lake Recreation Area

Lopez Lake Recreation Area

Ten miles east of Arroyo Grande, the Lopez Lake Recreation Area was created in 1969 to provide a domestic water supply for the Five Cities area of Arroyo Grande, Oceano, Grover Beach, Pismo Beach, and Shell Beach. Lopez Lake is a year-round recreation destination for camping, boating, fishing, hiking, waterskiing, picnicking, windsurfing, bird watching, canoeing, and more.

Most kids in San Luis Obispo County know Lopez Lake for the Mustang Water Slides, one of the most popular places to go in the summer. The park has two 600 foot curving waterslides, a 38 foot giant half-pipe double slide called the “Stampede,” wading pools, and Pony Slides for the littlest kids. The park is open only during summer months.

Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. 11:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admissions range from $20 for those over 60” tall, down to $12 for children under 42” in height. A “Dry Observer” ticket gets you park entry but not use of any pools or slides. www.mustangwaterslides.com info @(805) 489-8898, reservations@ (805) 489-8832
