San Luis Obispo Museum of Art

San Luis Obispo Museum of Art

What used to be called the San Luis Obispo Art Center has become the city’s Museum of Art under the guidance of a new director. Containing three galleries, it features original art and fine handmade jewelry and crafts. Located next to the creek at the west end of Mission Plaza, the Museum of Art was voted the “Best Place to View Public Art” in the county.

The museum offers classes and workshops for adults and children and sponsors art classes at area schools. Films featuring art documentaries are shown at the museum’s “Movie Nights.” The museum also sponsors the annual “Plein Art Festival,” a week during which artists paint outdoors throughout San Luis Obispo County.

Open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (except Tuesdays) Between July 4th and Labor Day, open everyday. Free admission.
